Age Requirements
To be eligible for Travel Team play, a child must be at least 8 years old,
but no older than 19 years old as of 1 August. For Recreational League play,
a child must be at least 4 years old, but no older than 14 years old as of
1 August.
A soccer season begins 1 August and ends on 31 July of the following
year. The season is typically divided into halves (Fall and Spring), and
both Recreational and Travel League games are scheduled during those half-seasons.
With indoor leagues and various soccer camps, though, there are plenty of
opportunities for kids to make soccer a year-round activity.
Use the chart below as a guide to determine age eligibility. EMSSC forms boys'
and girls' Travel teams for U9 - U19 Age groups. Recreational League teams are
formed U6 - U14. When forming Recreational league
teams, age groups are combined such that there are two years of play in each age
group (U5s and U6s play in U6; U11 and U12 play in U12, etc), as indicated in the chart.
The Laws of the Game are such that a player may play "up" in age but may never play "down" in age.
For instance a U13 player might play on a U14 team, but a U13 player may NOT play
on a U12 team.
